Do I Add a Toilet Or Keep The Bath?
July 18, 2018

The reality of the time-poor society we live in, the idea of filling up a bath seems like a time luxury that’s hard to imagine. This is one of the many reasons people are moving away from the humble bath and moving towards alternatives such as a large walk-in shower or a second toilet.

The majority of the questions you get asked when quoting bathrooms throughout Perth is about resale, resale and resale which seems to always be at the forefront of every renovator’s mind. My advice on this topic is covered extensively on the article HERE but I have always believed you should renovate for your needs now than what someone may or may not want in the future. It’s your hard-earned money so why not have the renovation the way you want to use it every single day. The advice is ranging on this some would say it’s short sited but there is not a right or wrong answer when dealing with a buyers preference so why not do something for you.

Below are bathrooms renovations we have completed throughout Perth WA where the owner has posted one of three statements below.

“I want a big shower”

Lynwood Bathroom Renovation
Carol never used the bath and was looking to get rid of it completely. This bathroom was unique as behind the door into the room was actually the only toilet for the whole house. So our suggestion and what we did was block off that toilet, create a new entry from the laundry and install a new toilet into the bathroom giving you an en-suite setup and separate toilet.

Due to medical reasons, this Lesmurdie family wanted to remove the bath and create some more space in the bathroom. By removing the bath they found all this extra space and due them only having one toilet wanted to install a toilet that was less bulky.

“One day I wont be able to get into the shower bath”

Roleystone Bathroom Renovation
Shower baths are not everyone’s cup of tea with the majority of the reason its no loved is the awkward nature of stepping in and out of it. The owners of this Roleytstone house wanted to have nice clean lines for ease of access.

Installing a toilet into a room that does not have one is generally one of the most expensive plumbing labour tasks you can undertake. There are many reasons why this is but in general it can add a day worth of work to the renovation even more so be careful of under budgeting for such a renovation. Having a second toilet for a large family can be a godsend more than using a bath once and a while but if you are a bath lover or believe you need a bath for resale go the safer route. Most bathroom renovations we do in Perth are moving towards the minimalist route which generally adds to the argument for a more streamline shower.
