In the kingdom of bathroom renovations space is all-conquering so with that in mind we bring in the debate of should my bathroom vanity have two sinks or one. A growing trend I have noticed and one of the reasons I brought up space is because more bench space seems to be the way every renovator is moving for the most part. Below we will present you the pros and cons of both from our experiences of installing bathroom vanities throughout Perth WA.
Single Sink Bathroom Vanities
Why being single is for you?
Layout – Bathrooms can often have limited space so the most important need you have is the one that’s at the forefront of your plans. Let’s say you want to have a separate shower and bath instead of a shower bath combination but the only way to gain the space is to have a smaller single vanity. If your other needs are more important having a single sink gives you the space to have something else.
Pricing – This one is pretty straightforward by reducing a single vanity from a double you can save anywhere between $350 to $1000 depending on fixtures and fittings. That can be a big saving if you’re on a budget or feel you don’t need it.
Space & Cleaning – Bench space is amazing to have as it allows you to not fill constricted and see all the things you are trying to find that sounds simplistic but it can be a great feeling to have. The other space benefit is that with no second waste pipe you can gain that storage underneath. The cleaning positive is the most simple meaning if you have less to clean it will just make your life easier.
Conclusion – Single sinks are great for main bathrooms, small bathrooms or anyone trying to save either on cleaning or costings. A lot of Perth bathroom ensuites are quite small so often the single sink is the only option.
Double the sink double the fun
Two’s a company, one is annoying. Having two sinks really is a benefit for people who have to use the bathroom at the same time. In this day and age, we are super busy and don’t have time to wait to use a sink. Double sinks allow for this but its important to take into consideration the size of the vanity and how close you will be standing next to that person. Ideally, nothing under 1500mm should be used for a double sink in my opinion. Now you can and that is just a guide, I just feel you want a certain amount of space on the benchtop and space away from the person next to you waving their elbows around while brushing their teeth.
Conclusion – Double sinks are great for ensuites and people who live busy lives. You will feel more like adults in a harmonious relationship rather than teens bickering and fighting over a single tap. Yes, the cost is more to install during your bathroom renovation and often remove the amount of bench space you have but done correctly and to the right size, it can be perfect to have in your next dream bathroom.
Ultimately, the decision between a single vanity and double vanities is a personal one. Knowing what’s right for you involves knowing what space you have to work with, what’s important to you, what you can afford, and what you like. Below is an example of a 1200mm double bathroom vanity we recently completed in Inglewood Perth WA. It’s often the most asked questions about double vanities we get on how does the 1200mm function so I left it last for you to make up your own mind.
