Brick Fashion But Not Old Fashioned

April 8, 2016

Brick tiling is also known as offset pattern or running bond. Traditionally used by masons as an easy and strong pattern for building walls, offset tiles work best with rectangular tiles. Each line of tile is offset by the width of half a tile. This is the classic layout for subway tiles, originating on the subway station walls of New York in the early 20th century, the subway tile has become one of the most popular classic looking design.

In a brick pattern, each row of tiles is typically offset by half a tile width, which results in long, horizontal lines that can subtly widen a room. It’s a timeless layout that can work for any rectangular tile, making it a great option for virtually any space.

Pro Tip : A brick layout can look especially stylish when paired with a contrasting grout colour, such as grey grout with white tile, emphasising the geometric pattern.

Con: The feature looks best with a small tile about 100mm or 150mm wide by about 300mm long. If its too large it looses effect but the smaller it is the more grout you have to clean
