Duncraig Bathroom Renovation

November 13, 2017

Ensuites can be built small. Its one of the so called features of bathrooms built in the 70's and 80's in Perth. There was a big push towards bigger bedrooms and bigger living rooms and smaller Ensuites. As covered in previous posts there are tips for making a small ensuite bigger but today we are focusing on a bathroom renovation completed by us in Duncraig, Perth, Western Australia.

What We Did

Above is the finished product and below is how it used to look. I usually go into too much detail so i will keep this post a little shorter. As seen below the ensuite is on the smaller side so Jeremy and his interior designer wife Klara aimed at maximising the space. The key move was too keep the floor as clean as possible. Examples of this is the wall hung vanity, the hobless shower and the large format tiles. These three things maximise the feel of the room as you can see below.

Bathroom Items Did We Use

The tap-ware we used in the bathroom renovation was Caroma. Caroma though expensive for most of its products are pretty reliable which is key for areas like a bathroom, that gets used so frequently. Whatever brand you pick its important to know that if anything breaks on it they will be around in more than a year or so to be able to replace it with Caroma being around for 75 years there must be something in the longevity. Klara opted for a combination with a mixer diverter. You will often see this set up but there is a rail component that has the diverter attached. This combination below is designed for making the bathroom clean and sleek.

Star of the Room

The star of the room for me is the vanity. From the integrated vessel basin to the waterfall edging, the vanity adds a warm but love factor to this bathroom.  Utilising big draws which are great for storage the vanity is the best combination style you can archive in a wall hung vanity.

Last Notes about the Bathroom

For most of us we are trying to archive space, it though is not always cheap. Often creating a minimalist bathroom can be the most expensive. This Duncraig bathroom was great in picking a feature which is always my big thing as you should only have one feature in a room that stands out. Bathroom renovations should be about making the most of the space you have. Jeremy and Klara have done a terrific job in designing a fully functional beautiful room that should be the model for how ensuites should be done.
