2020 Bathroom Renovation Trends
December 4, 2019

I think we can all agree that the humble bathroom in our homes tends to be the most used and yet somehow under-designed spaces. You either probably compromised when buying your home talking yourself into that small bath you can’t use or realized there was no storage after you moved in, trust me we have all been there.

However, if 2020 is the year you decide to renovate let us at On the Ball Bathrooms help you navigate the upcoming trends of 2020 bathroom renovations that we believe will be all the rage. As most of the posts we have, I like to show as many photos and fewer words as my wife will always say that I talk too much.

Be One With Nature

Bathrooms can be very dull spaces unless livened up. One emerging trend in bathroom renovations in 2020 is the incorporation of natural elements. These trends are easily achieved in the below two ways. First being simple and adding plants to a simple design of complementary to an industrial finish.

The second is to install real furniture wood vanities. These depending on if you are wanting real wood can cost a fortune but are worth it if you add it to the right setting. On the next level below you can get really good looking timber vanities that add a pop to the room without the heavy costing.

Fittings That Wow

Almost all items in the bathroom can be changed to a colour, shade or texture you want so with those options the boom in finishing can be overwhelming. My biggest trend personally will be the brushed brass with a little bit of the brushed nickel coming in. Whether or not those fittings last in terms of style one thing they do is really add pop to the bathroom that has plain walls.

P.S matte black isn’t going anywhere – particularly when paired with concrete.

Space Saving Solutions

Space is one of the crucial aspects of a renovation I get always asked about “how do I get more space” So most of the bathroom renovations we do will trend towards getting the most out of space without feeling too cluttered. Below are the best ways to maximize your space without intruding into the bathroom and a big trend for bathroom renovations in 2020.

No Bath – Getting rid of the bath and adding a larger vanity (Below is the before and after example)

Mirror Storage – Mirror cabinets are on the boom and these ceiling-high ones are the biggest trend.

Shower Niche – Everyone hates shelves so internal recesses are the best for solving this issue

Minimalism With Added Luxury

So finally the biggest trend with the bathroom in 2020 is The less-is-more take on a luxury bathroom. With options for freestanding bathtubs that provide feelings of relaxing, the additional need for better lighting such as LED mirrors and stunning feature walls, not full rooms. If you can take a bathroom back to a simple tile you like such as a concrete 600mm x 600mm add a white tile and some bold black tapware you can achieve something beautiful without being overbearing. Freestanding baths are awesome for a person looking for a nice bath.

Light up mirrors are great for makeup lighting and adding a touch of technology.

So the last one is the feature wall. Now whether it is subtle in a herringbone laid white, multicoloured in a subway feature or just a large tile running from the floor up the wall these features add to a room when you make the one section the feature and add around it.

Probably the most important rule to always remember is that there are no rules for renovating. Whether you elect for complementary or clashing wall and floor tiles, the choice is yours. If there is one overall arching trend it is this, happy living spaces are what everyone is trying to archive. Whether that is making the bathroom clutter-free, warm, high tech or full of wow we are trying to make our bathrooms a happy place so the only person who can tell you whats makes that space your own is you. Bathrooms in 2020 will be a lot like bathrooms in 2019 where we are all getting smarter and have a better understanding of space.
