How to Select the Right Type of Bath
May 20, 2016

There are different types of Baths available in today’s world of choice. Installing a bath solely depends on your room size, the layout of your bathroom and last but not least what the owner is wanting to achieve. Baths create a relaxing environment, like a holiday without the stress of flying. There are various types of baths available in the market such as Free-standing Bath, Inset Baths, Shower Bath and Corner/Spa Baths.

Free Standing

Free-standing baths are what bathing is all about. Its seen in hundreds of movies, millions of ad campaigns because it’s the definition of luxury. Often costs more than your standard bath by almost 3 times you are paying for the luxury. Generally, though that’s not the issue it’s the lack of space in many bathrooms to properly have it installed which is the biggest problem. Ideally, you want to be able to walk around it to clean but in reality, there is a lack of bathrooms that have this type of spacing. You will need to move the wall taps to a higher spot and often adjust the floor waste if you have an existing bath as the most commonly the waste will be in the centre of the new free-standing bath.

Drop In Bath

Drop-In Baths or Standard Baths have got a rectangular shape and the waste is at the end of the tub. Drop-in baths can be the lowest costing and usually made up of acrylic material but is also available in different materials. These baths are most of the time needed to be bricked up on its edges and tiled at the face. The average height of a drop in bath is about 420mm deep which is not a lot depending on the size you are but often they are designed for children to a certain age. You can get higher ones but the costing is massive for what you can gain. These types of baths are great for cleaning and if space is an issue.

Shower Bathtubs

Shower Bathtubs usually have you installing shower screens which are the most noticeable difference from the standard bath. Homeowners who have to rush to work can’t actually dip in the bathtub and take a bath every day. The advantage of these types of bathtubs is that a person can stand and have shower also enjoying the pleasure of bathing on weekends. Shower Screens usually comes in handy at the time of showering. It doesn’t allow water to splash, and you can have bathroom floor dry even after taking a shower. The biggest reason shower baths are installed is to create space in a lack of space in the bathroom. Not the most popular they are often installed due to necessity, not a choice.

Corner/Spa Bath

Corner Bathtubs are in fad these days. More and more homeowners in Perth and Australia are opting out for a corner bath. They often take up a bulk of space, take forever to fill up and are difficult to clean as you have to jump in there to access each point. If it’s a corner spa bath you will not only have the adding costing of the bath but the new electrical work that requires these to be safely powered. Stay away unless you see yourself using it at least 3 times a month as they often break down quite rapidly.
