Before and After – Toilet Renovations
January 29, 2020

Toilets might not be the most exciting part of a renovation, but it’s still important to choose a style that looks great and suits your needs. Below is a selection of toilet renovations we’ve completed, featuring designs both with and without a wash basin.

This gallery also showcases different tiling heights — one of the most common questions I’m asked when it comes to toilet design.”

While full-height tiling does come at a higher cost, it makes the room easier to clean and maintain. It also gives you more flexibility with tile choices and can help create a greater sense of height and space in the room.

Hand Basins – Many clients love the idea of having a dedicated place to wash their hands outside the main bathroom after using the toilet. However, what sounds appealing in theory isn’t always practical in reality.

While it’s often physically possible to install a small hand basin in a toilet, actually using it comfortably can be another matter. With most toilets only about 900mm deep, a basin can end up protruding from the wall and dominating the space, making an already small room feel even smaller.

This is where full-height tiling really makes a difference. You can make the room really pop with a decorative tile or even a different tile, such as a darker floor to make the room pop.

Tiling the toilet walls to a height of 1.2 m is a great option, as it helps keep the walls cleaner and suits modern back-to-wall toilets. Despite the name, these toilets actually sit back to the tiles rather than the wall itself, so if you only have a single tile behind, it can leave a small gap unless the area is built differently.

By adding an in-wall toilet set-up to an existing toilet area you will often have to add another small wall. You can either line it up with the window ledge or make it lower for putting items on.

Toilet tiling is a highly personal choice, and you won’t find much written about it online because everyone has their own unique preferences. My advice is to gather inspiration, explore a range of toilet renovations, consider professional recommendations, and ultimately choose what feels right for you and complements your home’s style
